| The NHLBI obesity guidelines propose that health professionals
use body mass index (BMI) to assess patients because the it is
simple, correlates to fatness, and applies to both men and women. To
calculate your body mass index at this site, select your height at the top of this
page and insert your weight in pounds at the bottom of this page. Click on the Compute button to see your body mass
index displayed at the left of the page. A healthy BMI is between 20 and 25 while a BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight and one 30 or above
is considered obese. A BMI of less than 19 is considered too low and potentially a health problem. |
